The Governing Council and Annual General Body Meeting of Gujarat Cancer Society was held at Community Oncology Center, Vasana on 3rd January, 2009 under the President ship of His Excellency the Governor of Gujarat passed certain important resolutions and approved an ambitious plan to convert the hospital to state of the art cancer care and research institute at part with international standards.

The meeting approved the appointment of Shri. Pankaj R. Patel as Executive Chairman of Gujarat Cancer Society.

The Hon'ble Minister for Health, who is also the Vice President of the Gujarat Cancer Society proposed to establish a state of the art general hospital and a self financed Medical College at the cost of Rs.396 crores. The meeting approved the upgradation of the current facilities at world class level even though the public partnership for raising the necessary fund.

The meeting authorized the Chairman, Gujarat Cancer & Research Institute to negotiate and proceed the necessary action in regard to the proposed Medical College.

The Hon'ble Minister also informed about the plan of Rs. 10.00 crore for screening and early detection of cancer in the rural areas of the State, especially for the detecting the breast and cervical cancer among the women.

The network of satellite cancer treatment centre will be set up across the state to ensure that even BPL family can get the timely treatment.
