"CANCER IN WOMEN"

On the Occasion of National Cancer Awareness day, Meeting of Members and Office bearers of various women organizations to apprise about Cancer in Women was Organized at Cama hall, Gujarat Cancer and Research Institute on 7 th November, 2009. Total 110 women organizations were invited. 59 centers were participated on that day. Doctors from Gandhinagar region PHCs & CHCs were also invited.

Shri Pankaj Patel, Chairman of GCRI was the president of the function. Guests of Honour were Mrs. Padmaben Jaykrishna, Chairman Jyoti Sangh; Dr.Niruben Shah, Vice President Indian Medical Association; Mrs.Rima Nanavati, Banaskantha Dhwarka mahila seva Association; Anar J.Patel, Secretary Manav Sadhana, Managing Trustee-Gramshri trust.

IEC (Information, Education and Communication) exhibition was kept outside the hall & was explained to all participants. IEC material was given to all the members from various Women organizations. Video Films "Mare Pan Jivavu Chhe" (breast cancer) and " Fulda Ni Forum" (cervical cancer) were also shown. "Street Drama" played by Mr. Archan Trivedi and his team gave very nice information about importance of HPV vaccination.

The programme was started with Ganesh prayer. Lamp lighting was done by recovered cancer patients. First of all Dr. Ushaben Shilinbhai Shukla nicely detailed the importance and duties of women organizations. Dr. Shakuntala V. Shah, Professor and Head of surgical oncology department gave information about prevention and early detection of breast cancer. Dr. Meeta Mankad, Head of Unit of Gynec oncology department, GCRI delivered a lecture on prevention and early detection of cervical cancer. Pragnaben who had a past history of Breast Cancer was called upon the stage. She told her detailed history and insisted that cancer is curable, never to hide the disease, to keep positive attitude & importance of social and family support. "Sanjivani Rath" was shown to all invited doctors. Facilities available in "Sanjivani Rath" were explained to them. Demonstration of VILI test and Colposcopy procedure was given in Gynec oncology department.

In the second session, Dr Pankaj Shah, Hon. Director, GCRI welcome all the guests and introduced them to all. He explained the main motto of "National Cancer Awareness Day" programme with a theme of 'Cancer in Women' and duties of women organizations. Shri Pankaj Patel, chairman of GCRI addressed the meeting. He insisted that maximum utilization of "Sanjivani Rath" should be done. Shri Padmaben Jaykrishna, Chairman Jyotisangh requested all women Organizations to come forward and help in cancer screening activities. At the end of programme, Mr.Prashant Kinariwala, General Secretary, Gujarat Cancer Society conveyed thanks to all invites.
