Gujarat Cancer & Research Institute and Gujarat Law Society arranged a symbolic holi of Tobacco Products ceased from patients and their relatives visiting cancer hospital on 19 th March 2008. School children of Gujarat Law Society were asked to prepare a painting having a theme ‘My House Tobacco Free' -which can be used as a sign board for their house. 450 paintings were exhibited at the time of holi and students were given back their paintings laminated. The laminated paintings will be kept by the students and they can hang these paintings as sign board at the entrance of their house. All children were given a pocket book on Tobacco Hazards named ‘Know your enemy – Tobacco'. Considering the encouraging response from the students and parents, Cancer Institute is planning to spread this activity across the district to start with and across the state later on during the next academic year.Talking with media on the occasion Mr.Jaynarayan Vyas – Health Minister of Gujarat conveyed his concerned about the loss of Rs.10000 per day on tobacco expenditure by village of 5000 population. Every year such village lose 37 lac rupees on tobacco. Every village becoming tobacco free will automatically become ideal and prosperous villages.
