An Article on this occasion released in Ahmedabad Mirror with the heading "Kids with Cancer get Kite-Flying High" dated 12th January, 2009.

A kite-flying programme for children suffering from cancer was organised at the Gujarat Cancer and Research Institute at the civil hospital campus on 10th January, 2009 Saturday.

Firkis and kites, with slogans for cancer awareness and de-addiction, were gifted to 25 children. Along with their parents, the children rushed to the terrace of the paediatric ward and took over the skies.

Pharmaceutical companies and individuals, who sponsored the programme, also brought chikkis and clothes for the children. Jayesh Kapadia, who had come from Rajkot to get his son treated at the hospital, said: "Children, who have been cooped up in the wards for so long, were ecstatic to get out and enjoy the fresh air. The soaring kites mirrored their spirits today"

Director of Cancer Hospital Pankaj Shah said, "Many people ask us how they can help these kids. Uttarayan is a hot favourite among the children. This is a celebration that always brings a smile on their faces."
