An INTERNATIONAL LAPAROSCOPIC COLORECTAL SURGERY WORKSHOP was organized on 12th and 13th December 2009 (Saturday and Sunday) at Cama hall, Gujarat Cancer & Research Institute, Civil Campus, Asarva, Ahmedabad.

Faculties from all over India and from Japan participated in the workshop. International faculties (Dr. Horoshi Matsumoto, Chief of endoscopic colorectal surgery and Dr. Daisuke Nakano) from Tokyo Metropolitan Komagome Hospital, Japan were among the invitees.

It started with live workshop with laparoscopic APR done by Dr. Shailesh Puntambekar chaired by Dr. S V Shah, Dr. Sandip Chakraborthy, and Dr. Shakti Sahoo, followed by laparoscopic ultra LAR with coloanal anastomosis done by Dr. H. Matsumoto chaired by Dr. Ayappan, Dr. Sidhartha Hazarika, and Dr. R A Tankshali. Third case was laparoscopic AR done by Dr. Shailesh Puntambekar chaired by Dr. S V Satpal Virk, Dr. kunal Oswal.

Post lunch session included Didactic session. Dr. Shailesh Puntambekar presented “Robotic surgery in Oncology”. Dr. H. Matsumoto gave a talk on “laparoscopic Sigmoid colectomy” and “Lateral Lymph Node Dissection in low Rectal Cancer”.

Second day there was live workshop with laparoscopic Right Hemicolectomy done by Dr. H. Matsumoto chaired by Dr. Kartikesh, Dr. Saurabh Joshi, Dr. Aman Singh, followed by laparoscopic LAR with stapler colorectal anastomosis done by Dr. Shailesh Puntambekar chaired by Dr. Karwasara, Dr. Pankaj Pandey, Dr. Amitabha Yadava. Dr. Shailesh Puntambekar Performed laparoscopic Wertheim’s Hysterectomy chaired by Dr. Meetha. Over all the workshop was successful and informative.
