A six day (2nd -7th Feb.2009 ) workshop on Nosocomial Infection Prevention concluded on the 7th Feb.2009. The workshop was organized in view of the demand placed to the GCRI from the Government Civil Hospitals of Gujarat like Navsari, Bhavnagar and other hospitals, as they wanted to have training for NABH (National accreditation Board for Hospital and Health) certification in Hospital Infection control which is one of the most important agenda for accreditation.

Around 86 participants who participated were Infection control doctors, pathologists, Matrons, Staff nurses and Assistant Health Administrators (AHA) from 14 different centers like Palanpur, Ahwa-daang, Vadodara, Patan, Navsari, Bhavnagar, Ahmedabad, Surat, Amreli, Godhra , Junagadh, Mehsana,Nadiad and others.

The teaching program included all important topics related to Nosocomial infection prevention like, Administrative issues related to Infection Prevention - NABH and Infection prevention, Overview of Infection prevention in Hospitals, Microbiological aspects:Samples & sample follow-up:AST, Visit to Microbiology laboratory and CSSD, OT, Other crtical area like BMT, Leukaemia wards andICU, HIV, HBsAg related problems, Practical demonstration of Surveillance and many other subjects.

The Concluding session was on the 7th Feb.2009. Chief guests were Dr.M.M. Prabhakar , Director of Paraplegia institute and Dr.M.M.Anchalia, Medical superintendent, civil hospital Ahmedabad. Other dignitaries who were present were, Dr.Pankaj M. Shah, Director –GCRI, and Other Deputy directors -GCRI, Shri.Prashant Kinariwala, Gen.Secretary – GCS and Shri.Kshitish Madanmohan, Secretary –GCS, Dr.Mithawala, Special Officer Duty,GCRI, Dr.Dhruti Desai, RMO, GCRI and Dr.Parijat N. Goswami, Cordinator of the workshop were present. The participants presented a skit, gave their feedback about how they felt about the work shop, Best prizes were awarded to the best performance in the Evaluation program conducted and finally all participants were honored by Certificates.
