Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Gujarat has entrusted the implementation of the District wise State Cancer Screening Programme. The Gujarat Cancer & Research Institute is selected as a nodal agency for the entire programme. Objectives of the entire programme are Training of the Health professionals, to provide necessary instruments and development of infrastructure at district level. The districts covered under this programme are Ahmedabad, Amreli, Ahwa, Dang, Bhuj, Bharuch, Dahod, Godhara, Gandhinagar, Himmatnagar, Junagadh, Jamkhambhaliya, Mehasana, Navsari, Palanpur, Patan, Porbander, Petlad, Rajpipla, Rajkot, Surendranagar, Vadodara, Valsad.

First Training workshop on Cancer screening for health professionals of Government district hospitals, civil hospitals and Office bearers of IMA Gujarat state branches had organized at Gujarat Cancer & Research Institute on Friday November 7, 2008 on the day of "National Cancer Awareness Day".

Shri Jaynarayan Vyas, Honorable Health Minister, was the chief guest and Dr. Amarjit singh, Health Commissioner was the guest of honor. During the scientific session following topics were covered to sensitize the audience.

During the open discussion Dr. Pankaj M. Shah, introduced the entire staff of Department of Community Oncology & Medical Records. He asked representatives of district hospitals, civil hospitals and IMA branches to collect information regarding resources and services available in the district level and send it to GCRI within a week. He also gave information regarding health professionals and NGO to respective districts.

At last, Dr. Pankaj Shah thanked all participants who came from different districts of Gujarat and made this first workshop fruitful.
